We contribute to diagnosis and treatment through diagnostic imaging using CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine study, and endovascular treatment.

In the Department of Radiology, we have Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Oncology Divisions. In the Diagnostic Oncology Division, we mainly perform diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology (IVR), which is a minimally invasive treatment. Regarding diagnostic imaging, we provide high-quality diagnosis using CT, MRI, and PET-CT. Regarding IVR, we perform a wide variety of treatments for such as for hepatocarcinoma, portal hypertension, and lower extremity obliterative arterial disease.

Field of expertise

In diagnostic imaging, we put emphasis on diagnostic imaging of the central nervous system, gynecological diseases, hepatobiliary pancreas, circulatory organs, and the chest. In these fields, we perform not only regular diagnostic tasks but also many high-quality researches. Also, we vigorously communicate with other departments through activities such as conferences. In the field of IVR, we are one of the rare facilities in Japan that performs a wide variety of treatments such as endovascular aortic repair for aortic aneurysm, endovascular treatment for lower extremity arterial obstruction, and treatment for portal hypertension. Also, in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Department, we are actively involved in cerebrovascular treatment.

Radiation Oncology

We do our best day and night to provide the best and highest-quality radiological treatment.

We have top-class radiation therapy machines in Japan such as two high-energy radiation therapy equipment (linac), brachytherapy equipment, a brachytherapy system for prostate cancer, and radio-iodine treatment room. In addition to regular three-dimensional radiation therapy, we perform high-technology radiation therapy such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), pulmonary stereotactic radiotherapy (pinpoint irradiation), and respiratory synchronization radiotherapy.

Field of expertise

We perform precise three-dimensional radiation therapy for malignant tumors at various sites. By focusing the radiation on the tumor, we can improve the therapeutic effect and reduce the side effects. For brain tumor and prostate cancer, we use intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), which is the latest technology. In our facility, we can perform volumetric-modulated arc radiotherapy, which is the most advanced form of IMRT. This method changes the form and intensity of the radiation as it rotates, allowing shorter treatment time compared to conventional methods. For pulmonary tumors, we perform stereotactic radiotherapy. Although it takes a few days for pulmonary stereotactic radiotherapy preparation, radiation is performed once daily at a total of four times (about one hour for each radiation session) and can be done without hospitalization. Brachytherapy for prostate cancer is performed in collaboration with the Urology Department and with four nights and four days of hospitalization. Regarding cervical cancer, by combining three-dimensional radiotherapy and brachytherapy equipment, a therapeutic effect similar to surgical therapy can be expected. We are the only facility in the prefecture that can perform radio-iodine treatment for thyroid cancer.
